Growth shouldn’t follow a template

At DocMorris, we believe that every colleague deserves the opportunity to grow in a way that reflects their strengths, ambitions, and personal needs. Frank, one of our warehouse colleagues who joined DocMorris in 2017, has always shown dedication and curiosity. His recent learning journey is a powerful example of what happens when motivation is supported in the right way. 

A strong desire to learn

Frank expressed a clear wish to further develop his skills and bring more variety into his daily work. With that in mind, he applied for our internal MBO Level 2 Logistics Employee training program, which we offer through our Warehouse Academy.

Although Frank has the knowledge and potential to succeed, Diana, our coordinator for colleagues from WSP Parkstad, quickly realized that this type of learning format was not the best fit for his needs. It wasn’t the level that posed a challenge, but the group-based assignments and presentations that would have made it difficult for him to fully show his abilities.

Open conversations and a tailored plan

Rather than turning Frank away, Diana invited him to have an open and honest conversation. She explains. “Frank wants to learn, and we want to reward that drive.

His motivation was clear. Together, they looked for an alternative and  found one in the Praktijkverklaring (Practice Certificate) development pathway. This practical training program allowed Frank to work one-on-one with a workplace mentor and to learn directly in the workplace where he already felt comfortable. Without the pressure of group work, he could develop at his own pace and focus entirely on hands-on experience. 

Throughout the program, Frank explored all logistics processes at DocMorris and carried out many tasks independently. The pathway took a little longer than usual, and that was completely fine, because Frank’s commitment and desire to understand every detail made all the difference.

I pushed through in difficult moments, and finishing this is a real boost to my confidence,” he says proudly. Today, Frank has a broad understanding of our logistics processes, and in some areas, he knows even more than some colleagues.

Frank’s Practice Certificate is now ready, and we are taking the time to celebrate this achievement, because he truly earned it.

"He deserves this", Diana says. “If I hadn’t believed in him, we wouldn’t have started this journey together.”

Frank is visibly proud and grateful to everyone who supported him during the process. Looking ahead, he hopes to take on broader responsibilities at DocMorris and show what he is capable of.

Collaboration with WSP Parkstad

WSP Parkstad is an employer service point that helps companies find new employees, particularly individuals who are distanced from the labour market. DocMorris has been working with WSP Parkstad for several years, and this collaboration helps us attract and support colleagues who face barriers to entering the labour market. By doing so, we create opportunities for people with disabilities to develop and grow in a supportive environment. In 2025, more than 40 colleagues from WSP Parkstad worked in our logistics operations and contributed significantly to processing customer orders.
