What happens when theoretical knowledge from ten months of intensive bootcamp meets the reality of a market-leading healthcare company?
Viktoriia took exactly that leap. After her time at the WBS CODING SCHOOL, she is now completing her practical phase at DocMorris in the team of Josu, our Tech Lead for Data Science. We spoke with her about what it feels like to suddenly bear responsibility for data that improves healthcare for millions of people.
The daily routine of an intern in our Data Science team is a far cry from the cliché of lonely programming. "My typical day at DocMorris is a mix of technical work and team meetings," Viktoriia describes.
While a lot of time is spent coding, performing analyses, or building pipelines, the framework for this work is established collectively. "Every day starts with a team-wide daily meeting to exchange updates and align on priorities," she adds.
In Josu’s team, there are no hierarchical barriers when it comes to good ideas. Viktoriia describes the atmosphere as extremely open. "I can ask questions at any time and I don’t just get answers, I often get the background explanation as to why certain decisions are made."
This creates a steep learning curve, allowing her to grasp the bigger picture more quickly. The best part? She was trusted with significant tasks from day one. "Even as an intern, I could contribute my own ideas, make suggestions for improvement, or point out potential problems," Viktoriia reports.
Seeing that these suggestions don't just end up in a drawer, but actually change processes, is the fuel for her daily work.
The moment you work with real user data for the first time is a turning point for any Junior Data Scientist. Viktoriia clearly remembers the sense of relief she felt when she realised just how well the bootcamp had prepared her for these real-world scenarios.
"When I worked in the team with real data and real-world questions, I realised that the foundation is there, and that you can continue to build on it step-by-step in everyday professional life."
This reality check changed a lot.
Her biggest takeaway? Confidence.
"Today, I work much more securely on tasks, can solve problems in a more structured way, and handle uncertainties or incomplete data better," she says proudly.
Data Science and analytics at DocMorris are not theoretical constructs; ultimately, they help improve healthcare for millions of people.
This is also what motivates Viktoriia every morning. "In daily life, you often work very technically and focus on data or processes, but in the background, there is always the thought that your work can help people get faster or better access to health products."
Her experience shows: Anyone who brings a passion for data and the courage to dive straight into the production environment can make a real impact with us.
